In the world of immersive technologies, few figures have had as significant an impact as Evelyn Miralles. Through her groundbreaking work in virtual reality (VR) and astronaut training, she has played a crucial role in shaping the future of space exploration while inspiring new generations in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).

Her Work: Revolutionizing Astronaut Training

Evelyn Miralles, a computer engineer, is a key figure in the development of virtual reality (VR). Originally from Venezuela, she moved to the United States to pursue her studies and earned a degree in computer science from the University of Houston. Passionate about computing and space, she began her career at NASA in 1993, where she joined the Virtual Reality Laboratory.

At NASA, Evelyn Miralles designed VR simulators that allowed astronauts to prepare for space missions and simulate complex technical interventions. One of her major projects was the development of the DOUG (Dynamic Onboard Ubiquitous Graphics) program, which has been used since the 1990s to prepare for crucial missions, such as the repair of the Hubble Space Telescope.
